John F Kennedy International Airport is situated 15 miles southeast of Manhattan and operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The main airport runway is 4,442 metres long with an asphalt and concrete surface.
New York JFK Airport with in excess of 30 million passengers per year, is New York's busiest, its nine terminals all in demand. The airport has over 80 different airlines flying to both internal US and international destinations. John F Kennedy International Airport is located around 15 miles southeast of Manhattan, in the New York borough of Queens.
It was first opened around 1948, when it was simply called New York International Airport, inheriting the name John F Kennedy in 1963 in memory of the famous President. It has gone from strength to to strength since the 60’s with significant growth in all areas to cater for the constantly increasing demand.
Driving to the Airport
Manhattan to New York JFK Airport
Go along the Belt Parkway East, getting off at exit 19, at which point pick up the Van Wyck Expressway which will go to JFK.
New Jersey to New York JFK Airport
Follow the New Jersey Turnpike until exit 14C, then go south on West Street, from there picking up the Belt Parkway.
Long Island to New York JFK Airport
Take the Belt Parkway West, leaving at exit 20 and from there take the JFK Expressway to the airport.
Upstate New York to New York JFK Airport
Take Interstate –87 south until exit 278 East. Remain on the 278 until the 495 East exit from where the Van Wyck Expressway will run to JFK.
Both the Van Wyck Expressway and JFK Expressway go straight to the Central Terminal Area of JFK International Airport. Keep an eye out for the coloured signs on both Expressways, coded to link in with the different terminals. They will direct visitors to the correct car parks for each terminal.
